Think of each category as a type of finish.

Each filament listed is rated for use between 190ºC and 250ºC(375ºF - 475ºF), every printer and nozzle is calibrated differently and one standard temperature does not necessarily work in every scenario, it is up to the user to find the best temperatures based on use.

Below are advanced characteristics for each Filament Finish and our personal guidelines for each filament.

Standard PLA

Simplistic colors and available for a cheaper price. Generally used for beginning enthusiasts and utility use. Print quality, strength, and temperature are an all around average jack of all trades.


Matte PLA

A solid contender against Standard PLA but a different shade of life! Quality is average, strength is average, and print temperature is average. That was easy!

Silk PLA

Soft in feel, but bright in color! A fan favorite, Silk PLA has found it's place amongst the top because of the variety available. Silk PLA quality varies based on temperature, too hot of a nozzle can find you with too much stringing! Silk strength is LOW, we recommend only using Silk Filament for "display" models. The temperature for Silk PLA should be below average. Some of you may benefit from lowering print speed too.

Tri PLA

A single strand of filament, split into thirds, featuring 3 colors on each third of the strand. Very similar to Dual PLA, except an extra color added for more flair! Tri PLA comes in Iridescence, Matte, Silk, and Standard base colors. Tri PLA has it's own category for simplicity.
